what is CASE learn?

Ive been reading about people needing to get CASE learn done to their PCM's after they get them tuned. I recently put a DHP 1.0 in my GTP....I got a chance to drive the car a few days ago when it was very nice out and no salt on the roads and no check engine light came on. What is CASE learn? and do I still need it if my car didnt trip and light?

If your car started, you don't need a case learn.

If you replace your PCM or crank pulley, you should technically get a CASE learn for the best performance. But if you don't throw a DTC, then you can get away without one and the car will drive fine. There's no rush, but maybe at a club meet, someone with a tuner can try a CASE learn on your car. Maybe we can meet in Webster sometime and try it. It won't hurt.

You can't do a case learn without the car running Idea

when i had a bad crank sensor i got no codes whatsoever, when i replaced it the car ran ok and stopped randomly dying on me. after doing the case learn it really woke up. but all cars are different, if u think ur car is running good then leave it, but it should be done if u replaced the pcm

CASE learn is properly called "crankshaft position sensor variation learn procedure". It measures the variations of the reluctor and sensor to detect the crank position, then stores the information in the PCM. It's used to detect changes in crank speed for misfire detection and to tell the difference between misfires and running on rough roads. It also optimizes timing which is based on crank position. If you don't get a code it means that it was good enough to keep the engine running. You should get it done.

Yeah....if most of you guys recomend it getting done...I will eventually have it done just to be safe. Can it be done w/ the car sitting still running? My car is sitting out in my barn....and im not driving it any time soon cause its been snowing and im sure they've put some salt down by now.

The procedure goes like this:
1. Start CASE Learn program
2. Start the car
3. Apply Parking Brake
4. Depress main Brake
5. Click 'Go' in the program
6. Stomp on the gas (while both brakes applied) so it hits the rev limiter
7. When program says complete (~2 sec later), remove foot from gas
8. Grab a beer

Haha sounds easy enough to me...I can definately handle step 8.
