I'm just under 90k and due in for an oil change... I have a minor tranny slip and am thinking I should flush the transmission fluid. I'm not sure if it's time for plugs/ wires or anything else... I've owned it since 40k and only changed the oil when it came time...
Any suggestions? |

I change my plugs yearly and wires every two or as needed.
Change your fuel filter, air filter if needed.
PCV valve. _________________ Good Bye.

Factory AC Delco wires.
Has your tranny fluid ever been changed? You will find a debate on whether or not you should get a flush. It could cause problems. Ideally, you just drop the pan and change the fluid and filter at appropriate intervals - 25k to 40k miles depending on other factors. I would suggest you try that first. I've seen cars have shifting problems and brownish tranny fluid before 50k miles. |

I would drain the transmission fluid and change the filter. I wouldn't worry about a flush. As far as wires go, the stock Delco ones are best. Some people like pretty colors and go with the MSD wires. The only thing you gain with them is pretty colors. There is no really performance boost.
You might also want to replace your PCV valve, fuel filter and whatever other maintenance things need to be done. |

So today i picked up:
Oil & filter, plugs, pcv, and fuel filter.
I'm gonna go to the gm dealer for a wireset and the tranny filter and gasket.
I went to replace the fuel filter, and I am having trouble locating the schrader valve (3100 series eng.), since I was told to let the pressure out first. |

You should not need a gasket for the transmission fluid change, only the filter. The pan gasket is a heavy duty rubberized metal gasket that should only be replaced if damaged. And the o-ring around the neck of the filter should not need replacing. It's usually hard to remove. |

I'd do a home coolant flush.
That was one thing I did when I first bought my GTP besides oil change, fuel filter, pvc, air filter, brake fluid flush with brake job, change trans fluid and filter. _________________ 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP

I prefer to have a shop do the coolant flush. It's cleaner and I don't have to mess with recycling the old fluid. I'm not a fan of just flushing it down the storm drain. |

If i remember correctly the schrader valve for the fuel is on top of the fuel rail towards the driver side of the engine under a black cap that u have to screw off to get to. It's been a while since ive owned a 3100. (Used to have a 96 Lumina) But it should be in just about the same spot as it is on the 3800's. _________________

I actually found the schrader valve earlier today, under a black cap on the passenger side, right behind the belt, so I'm good to go on that...
However, now I need to locate the PCV Valve, I believe it is under the MAP sensor on the 3800's but that is not the case, upon my investigation, on the 3100... Perhaps what I thought was the MAP sensor isn't, or I didn't look deep enough... Any ideas?
Perhaps I should post pictures for future reference if anyone else with a 3100 comes looking for help... |

Ahhhh yes....all that looks familiar. Overall a decent, reliable motor.....not the quickest motor by any means, but you cant complain about the decent gas mileage you get w/ those. |

I think I averaged 28mpg last week.. Hopefully after the tune up and possibly a CAI install w/ a K&N cone filter, I can get that number up a little higher... |
