ok well ive been putting this off for a while. over the winter somthing happened with my trunk, the key fob wont open it nor will the key, its like the key isnt going all the way in the cylinder, the key wont turn and i dont wanna try to hard to turn it and bust the key inside the cylinder. im ready to go to a junk yard and buy a new trunk. but before i did that, i thought id come on here and see if any of you might know what the hell happened. i tried graphite already and nothin happened either. |

If there's help for the key issue, I'll gladly listen. My key hasn't gone past halfway since I bought the car in '02. I even have to plug in the battery during engine builds, if I forget something stashed back there & can't reach it via the pass-thru.

The wifes Regal had this issue, I had to use some penetrating spray and work at it for a few days just to get her damn trunk open. I know that sometimes the actuator gets all gummed up and wont disengage.
Try reaching for that trunk release through the cubby if you have it IDK if the 98's had them like the 01's do. I sent my kid through her pass through to pull it and open the trunk. Check your wiring too if you have corroded wiring you'll have voltage loss and the actuator wont open the trunk. Try and lube it for a few days and then see if the key will work.
If all else fails get a new set of lock cylinder from a junk yard or ebay. I have a spare set laying around along with another ignition too. |

yeah wd-40 should do it to get the lock going. Shoot it in, put it on the key, then play with it. My 98 caddy had this problem I had to back the key out a little and turn too. Just keep working it., but its odd the the remote wont do it. _________________ Best Formula N-A 12.1 @ 110 (pre-engine swap) |

This happened to my '98 just recently. There isn't a release handle but you can use a pair of pliers to turn the key release shaft counter-clockwise and that'll open the lock. It may also help with getting the key to release, at least it did with mine.
Cheers,
Ian

Whoops, I got my bearings messed up. You need to turn it COUNTER-Clockwise, not clockwise, when looking at the locking mechanism from inside the trunk. |

Is your trunk still popping via the button in the glove box? My key has never worked. _________________

check your fuse. Mine blew when my neutral safety switch went bad. Caused my backup lights to go as well (same circuit).
It's in the box under your hood. Should be labeled bu/hr or something like that.
Are you getting a weird clicking noise from your shifter? |

Was the fuse blown? Are you getting any SES lights? What's a BCM? I'm not sure if my problem is the same as yours, but it's a shot.
Does your gear indicator lights work on gauge cluster? |
