I was hoping for higher numbers, but oh well.
Unless another one showed up late, mine was the only GP to get on the dyno. How late was everyone there?
A question though: Isn't our max HP usually somewhere over 5k RPM? (Someone say 'yes' and make me feel better )

You have a 3.4 pulley, right? You should have had about 230hp at 5200 to 5500 rpm. Hell, my GTP with the stock pulley put down 208 to the wheels. Did they not rev high enough? _________________ 1998 Silvermist GTP Coupe

i have to post this on here too
the type of dyno used was a mustang dyno it Always puts out a lower/realistic number then a dynojet. aslo the operator may not have reved it high enough, he was being careful not to beat the hell out of the cars. also the car was dynoed in 3rd gear so if you have had your car on a dyno and they used 2nd gear that would give you a higher number.
brian just remember to multiply your HP number by 25%
that should get you really close to the true number _________________ www.allstartactical.com |

Actually, add 25% (or multiply by 1.25). Which is about 247.7 HP...which is less than stock rating of 260. I can appreciate him not wanting to beat up the cars, but I would have liked something more to brag about.
Regardless of my numbers, thanks for setting it up, Brad! It was a fun day. It was even nice enough outside for me to get a little sunburn! Also learned that squirrels think LT1s make good storage facilities.
By the next time a dyno-day comes around, hopefully I'll have rockers and a PCM that's a little more fun (DHP, where are you?). And now I know what fuse to pull for ABS (thanks Johnny!), and to make sure a wider RPM range is hit.
Now I need to finally get this beast to the track. |

the GM numbers are a CRANK rating that is not what you should have at the wheels. |

I thought the aforementioned 25% was to be added to the dyno numbers to get the crank numbers to account for drivetrain loss.
So you're saying add 25% to get the real WHP, then another percentage has to be added to get the crank HP? |

Actually I figured it out..... F-bodies have a 15% drivetrain...at least 6spd are, but they were saying to add 25% because the mustang dyno actually adds about 10% loss to the numbers.
However the GP has a factory 21% drivetrain loss, so when figureing out numbers you have to add the 21%factory loss PLUS the 10% additional loss of the Mustang Dyno.
198.183+31%=259.62 unfortunatley thats only the factory rating....but remember thats about 1300rpm lower than where the car makes it's max hp.
And yes the car was run VERY low in the rpm band because he was afraid to push the car since he was worried about the traction control kicking in and kicking him off the dyno since we couldn't figure out how to properly disable Brian's TC. |

Brian -
Yes, he should have run the car to redline (if possible). Here's my last dyno graph (Dec '03):
http://media.unycgp.com/2003/2003-12-13/data_torque.jpg
From:
http://media.unycgp.com/2003/2003-12-13/
(there's a legend that show's what pulley was used on the different runs).
Note that this was done on a different type of dyno. I'll dyno again in the future if I get a chance.
The number you got from the dyno was wheel horsepower (actual power put to the ground). Adding the estimated drivetrain loss percentage gives you the estimated crank horsepower. |

L man But you have a larger cam, witch move the max hp rpm up. Also the exhaust it 100% stock. Your ext setup will support you over 5K. MG what was your max hp rpm at. like 5,100? I'm going to guess the 04 is only maxing about 205 WHP on that dyno. Your 04 isn't going to make more power over 5,000
BTW there were 2 LS1 cars that have ran around 12.6 113ish only hit 310 other 330 WHP. Larrys car would be at about 285 290 but I don't think 300WHP at this place for compaison. little more tq then the LS1 cars obisly tho. hense the MPH compiored to a GTP mph.
Crazy daves 12.2 LS1 TA hit 335 at this place last month but 360 at foatian. Somthing like that brad will correct me. |

MAN! does anyone listen to me?
Quote: | Crazy daves 12.2 LS1 TA hit 335 at this place last month but 360 at foatian. Somthing like that brad will correct me. |
and I gave the explanation for this.....
Quote: | the mustang dyno actually adds about 10% loss to the numbers.
|
335+10%= 368.xx
Like Brians actual WHP on a dynojet would have been 217.8....and from what I hear it would have been even more at Fountain because the dynopaks they have read about 5-10% higher than a dynojet.
Also no one has mentioned that the dyno was not RPM based, it was speed based, and since Brian was unsure of what speeds to pull from in 3rd gear(and like I said the guy being scared of the stability control kicking in) he took conservative pulls to ensure the cars safety and the safety of everyone aroudn the area. |
