That's just too easy....
Have you EVER run it, Jeff?
You gotta actrually run faster than a 13.49 to be considered 'faster than 13.49'. Point being, the GTO made over 460 to the wheels and I never ran faster than a 12.90 in it for any number of reasons...among them traction, track conditions, and paramount was driver skill. _________________ Hi, I'm Matt. 12.90 is still over a half-second faster than the limit for 'verts..
Advertised 1/4 mile for the car was 13.6 if memory serves. I'd like to think that bolting an additional 200 HP on it would certainly have an improvement of at least 2 tenths (thereby making me illegal).. LOL
I tried one time, didn't pass tech. They saw the boost gauge in the dash, and said "Not without a rollbar". _________________ Fast. Cheap. Correct. Pick any two.

Nice car!
Track times? |
no track times best guess is mid 13. random guess 13.4-13.7
raced a couple firebirds and mustangs GTs.with positive results |
Welcome.
I have a Mustang GT. Wanna race? |
im track only after today . but sure if were ever at a track at the same time sure. depending on ur mods of course |
Mods? I have an aftermarket "intake". 435/419 wheels.
Track? Unfortunately, not me.. I have a convertible, and since I refuse to cage it, I can't run. Anything faster than 13.49 and they make you have a roll bar. IMHO, ugly in a 'vert. |
It's a mustang, why are you worried about it getting uglier? _________________ 2007 Grand Prix GT CAI, 180* so far, more on the way

Jeff's car is cute, don't ya think guys?
The tech guys actually took a picture of him so they'd all know if he came back and tried to fool them.

I was just breakin balls. It does look pretty sharp, especially the pink paint job. Not sure about the windshield decal though...
You have a roll bar, I thought you only needed a full cage for like 11.50 and lower? |

it's not really a roll bar. it's more like an STB for the B pillars. _________________ 1998 Silvermist GTP Coupe

Correct, not a roll bar. It provides VERY little structural support, and NO rollover protection. It's simply a dress-up part. I believe the correct name is a "convertible styling bar".
As for the cage - I need a 6-point roll bar. It need to have the bar behind the head, door bars, and then two rear-facing support bars.
11.50 might be the coupe roll-bar rule, though I thought it was 11.99.. |

Ahh, learn something new every day. I am not positive on the 11.5 for coupe needing a cage, but that is what I thought. Could be wrong. Have you tried talking to a shop about fabricating something custom that could be semi-hidden? |

Actually, I did contemplate it. I did some research on shops with good word-of-mouth reputations (Torelli Pro Cars was one), and talked to them. No one wanted to touch it because it was so new and it was a show car. I FINALLY located a guy in Ontario, Canada. He said he could hide the upper hoop inside the styling bar, and I'd have to have the speedster cover cut to slide over the rear supports, and he'd do removable door bars. $2700 CDN. I'm not sure I want to spend that much on it for the handful of times it might actually see track duty.
It would just be nice to actually have a real NUMBER when people ask me how fast it is. All I know at this point is that there are several coupes on mustangforums.com that have the exact same mods I do, and their drivers are consistently seeing 12.1 - 12.2 on DRs. Probably have the good driver mod, too. Me? I would have to guess on DRs I might maybe see 12.6-7 on a good day (I don't have much seat time at the track). |

Quote: | When do I need a roll bar or roll cage, and what should it look like?
A roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.49. The roll bar is accepted in vehicles running as quick as 10.00 second e.t., provided the stock firewall and floorboard is intact, other than for installation of wheel tubs. The rollbar must be constructed of minimum 1 ¾ inch o.d. x .118 inch wall mild steel tubing, or 1 ¾ x .083 chrome moly tubing, and must conform to the following diagram:

Convertible Mustangs are faster because they have chick drivers.
The convertible is meant to be a cruiser, not a racer. The go fast mods end up being expensive engine dress-up parts. If you want to go fast and race, then stick with a coupe. If you want to enter a parade or watch The Notebook, buy a convertible.
Then again, I drive a rice burner four banger, so my opinion probably doesn't count for much. |
