OK... we have our new website and for the most part all the aesthetically related stuff is done. My next concern is content.

Over the last 6-8 months I've had conversations with certain users of our forum that have been somewhat disappointed in our website. They have felt to a degree that our website was more of a "social hour" forum instead of an informational one. After I told them where to stick it.... I got to thinking that their comments might have some degree of merit.

While I enjoy chatting with you all about stupid stuff, daily issues, stuff going on, etc... I do realize that at times this forum can come across like "The Forum About Nothing" (10 pts). That said, I'm wondering if we can appease both masses and start to develop certain areas of this forum into more informational areas.

The last thing I want to do is clone what the national boards have done, but they do have designated areas for mods, where users can ask about certain aspects of their cars and get legitamate answers and tips without getting chewed out. I am hopeful we can continue to bust balls here while at the same time offer new areas for certain mods, frequently asked questions, etc.. Hopefully eventually we can "STICKY" certain threads that prove to be valuable tutorials by our more respected members.

I know I consider myself still a novice about my GTP, and while I do have a bunch of mods installed now, I'd love to learn more about what the "big guns" in UNYCGP have done to their cars, and their tricks and tips therein. So what I'd like to do is add a couple additional forums to this site, geared specifically towards certain mods and upgrades for our cars. Again, I do NOT want to clone what the national boards have, but just to give you an idea they have the following areas that get used regularly, and serve as archives for new members to look at when searching for certain mods, etc:

-- Appearance Forum

-- Drivetrain Forum

-- Quality Issues

-- PCM Tuning

-- Suspension, Brakes, Wheels, and Tires

-- 2004+ Specific GP's

-- GXP Specific GP's

-- Turbo Talk

While I do NOT want to use ALL of these areas, possibly adding 2 or 3 content specific forums might be a good idea.... but wanted to run this by you all first for your thoughts and sentiment. I really think it'd help with the appearance that our website really isn't informational. I'm also trying to think of value-added features of our website to help acquire and recruit additional members.

so by adding some of these new forum sections, your gonna get rid of the mod archieve section then right?

to me it doesnt seem worth it...we dont post enough mods to cover aperance, suspension and so forth, so combining them into 1 section worked out easier...just my opinion..

it may chance when summer hits and people are doing stuff to there car..

as far as i know, whenever ive asked a question about mods for my car ive never gotten chewed out or a crap response. everyone here has been helpfull Very Happy

Throw in whatever topics you want. If they don't get used, so be it.

This really is a social club. We're local. For the most part, we all know each other.

When someone asks a technical question, it gets answered. It's not that often that we have pages and pages of discussion on the answer (only recent exception that I can think of is the alcohol injection threads).

I don't see a need for a bunch of different technical threads, nor do I see a need for seperate thread for each type of racing.

I think what we have is good but I don't see how it will hurt to add more topics.

what I would like to see is a list of mods and how to do them (maybe have mod write ups) I think the MICGP has this on thier site. A list of mod write ups by thier members. I know for a fact that we have a TON of good practical GP knowledge to pass on to the masses from UNYCGP. Barton also has the database thing he was working on and that should be added to the site as well. Oh, also, why not have the media server files (pics and movies) here too?

There are allot of local GP clubs that have far superior websites to ours that I have used in the past for resourcing. When I get back to work I'll check my bookmarks there and post them for everybody to see.

How about also a usefull link list to clubs, vendors, etc etc

You're right guys, we don't have enough content and discussion to fill up 2 or 3 different mod forums... that's the point. I'm hopeful that by adding a couple more areas this might encourage more technical and "how-to" type discussions. Chicken or the egg thing, I guess. Maybe we can give it a try and see how it works for awhile. Like you said, I'm sure the mod discussion will pick up once the real "mod season" hits this spring.

I'd love to host the media from UNYCGP.com. I think we all talked about merging EVERYTHING into this site so we aren't sending mixed signals with what our club website is. I think Larry runs the media server so it might be a good idea for him and I to put our heads together. I can certainly host the media here. I have PLENTY of server space.
