Well if you're reading this then you obviously see the new site. Let me just tell you this was a bit more tedious of a process than I anticipated. That's ok, that's why the club pays me the big bucks. Hey, waitaminute....
Anway, I hope you enjoy. As I mentioned before, these files are now hosted on my faster and more reliable Larmo.com servers. We have a fresh new phpbb shell, and I've tried to incorporate some of the features that you all have wanted. This includes some things like a fresh new look using new color schema and a Flash animated navigation header. I've also programmed an advanced 'Profile Control Panel" where you can see there are a ton more opportunities to get data like real name and your car fields in user profiles... once entered, this data is automatically displayed on the main viewtopic pages in that left author column. This way, we all definitely know who we all are and what we are driving. We can keep our usernames as stupid nicknames and not be bothered at all about who we are dealing with. I've also added the option to individually disable avatars that I think someone requested.
The biggest challenge was to maintain our data. After some digging and reprogramming, I finally did ensure our data integrity so we are fully inputted. (to my knowledge). There was originally an issue with users avatars and photo album pics not carrying over but I did figure that out eventually. I know how much those avatars mean to you guys.
There are a ton other new features that I am sure you will realize and see once you get playing around. Also, special thanks to Matt for letting us use his car for the main top Flash header. And to think we didn't even have to pay him any royalties!!
By all means, guys.... play around and PLEASE let me know if you run into something that I forgot or left out. It is my philosophy that NO website is EVER done.... this will be a constant work in process.

OK I've already found a bug. The email notifications that you receive upon reply to one of your posts sends you to the raw post, minus the frameset. That doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot but it sure would be nice if I could figure out a way to keep that flash menu at the top. Hmmmmm lemme think.

First request:
Can the forum header be made static on the page when in the forums? ...as opposed to scrolling to the bottom of a page.
Also, should the URL remain www.unycgpforums.com (or unycgp.com)? It jumps to forum.unycgp.com.
I say the Flash absolutely stays. |

Thanks for the comments. First of all, I don't manage the club REAL domain, UNYCGP.com. If you guys want this to be THE main place then just let me know what changes you need done and get me the DNS info for UNYCGP.com.
Secondly, the forum menu is at the bottom really just for those that might not want to install the flash player. I believe all you'll really need in that will be the LOGOUT button... I believe everything else is duplicated in the flash menu itself. (might be named something different but it takes you to the same place). |

Ok, after looking at them I really think those gay Pontiac icons need to be redone. I can do better than that... I didn't notice how bad they were until now. |

Once you leave the original browser window (by opening links in new windows), the flash header is no longer present. This doesn't bother me, but that's probably what's going on.
unycgp.com is owned by myself. I know it's been mentioned a few times in regards to site consolidation. I don't have any plans to make any changes but I'm open to suggestions. When I get a chance, I'll probably work on the look and navigation of that site. |

The ">>> UNYCGP Grand Prix of the Month Archives" link on the main page probably isn't working the way it was intended.
edit:
The other two local links also..
The IDD5 ">>> Discuss this event in our forum"
The donate "Click here for info" |

@ Larry: Yeah that is the issue I am running into. Like you said it's not that big of a deal as opening links in new windows don't happen very often, other than clicking links in email notifications. I'll dig around see if there are any workarounds. Regarding UNYCGP.com.... in my opinion it doesn't make sense for two of us to be putting the time into two different websites. If it's all the same to you we can just merge the two together.
@ redross17: The UNYCGP of the Month Archives doesn't work because we don't have any archives!!! |
