Hoselton in E. Rochester has an Indy Edition SS for sale. I looked it over on Friday, but none of the sales folks felt like wandering over to talk to me, so I looked it up this morning online. They are asking $23,000 for the car with 17,000 miles on it.

The car is in pretty good shape, but needs some things taken care of. There is a short but deep (to primer) scratch on the driver's door. There is also a nice crease about 3-4 inched tall on the driver's quarter panel next to the gas door. It hits a body crease, so it would be fun to see is a PDR guy could get it out. The left rear tier does have a screw sticking out of it as well. It is in the outer tread block, so it might be too close to the sidewall to patch/plug.

The paint needs some love too. It has swirls and cob-webbing all over the place. The hood has some hologramming where Timmy First Day tried out a buffer. It would take a little bit of effort, but they would come out. The rest of the car looks good. There is no rubber build-up or residue by the front tires, so the previous owner probably didn't beat on it much. The interior looked good through the windows. It is very well equipped with pretty much every option.

I think $23,000 is a stretch considering a 2005 with the same options is about $25,00 with pricing and rebates. I wouldn't pay fmore than $20,000 for it. I may go talk with the guys there on the way home. We all know the special edition W-body cars don't exactly scream "collector", so I don't see the need to pay a premium. If they would give me a fair trade on Roxanne, I'd think long and hard about it.

Then again, I don't know if I could fathom joining the Dark Side after all these years of my N/A training. I also swore off owning another black car. Very Happy

I was looking at 04 impalas with 20k miles for $13-$15k. NA V6. SC V6 would hopefully still be well under $20k.

If anyone is interested, there are new 06 Impalas at the dealers. I saw some (LT, LTZ and SS) at Doyle in Webster.

Personally, I'm waiting for the 06 Monte SS with V8 option... I'm wondering what kind of price they are going to slap on it.

Is it supposed to be different than the GXP?

MadMike- Is there a body style change planned for the 06 Monte SS?

I have to keep telling myself that I don't want another black car. Smile If that doesn't work, I think of how much money I would end up spendng on mods...

Well, after checking out Pontiac's site, I guess they are going to share the same engine. 5.3L V8 with Displacement on Demand (whatever that means).

Some small changes, bigger wheels. Here's a link: http://www.chevrolet.com/montecarlo06/
The front end of the car is redesigned a bit. I guess that's the biggest change.

I haven't tried a GXP yet, so who knows, it may be a good package.

Displacement on demand started, I believe, back with the Cadillac Allante and its "limp home" mode.

Basically, when you are cruising along, and there is no need for all 8 cylinders, 4 of them stop receiving fuel. When you punch the gas, hence have the demand for all 8 cylinders, they are fired back up.

In other words, they are trying to make a more fuel efficient V8. It would really suck if it malfunctioned. Smile
