For the past couple of days, I've had a very difficult time getting to the site. This has happened from home and work. What's going on? |

I agree. I can connect perhaps once in 5 tries, and when I do get on here it's beyond slow.

I haven't had any problems connecting, it's just been unusually slow the past few days.
It is, however, running like a champ right now.

Its been horrible... absolutely horrible.
I think anyone not noticing it hasn't tried to get on all morning/afternoon.
I've been trying every 30 min since 8 this morning... _________________

This is the first time I've been able to access the site today.
I had a suggestion:
Create a sticky post somewhere that addresses what to do if the site is down for x days. If everyone, including new members, read it (before the site is down, of course), then maybe they'll remember what it said when the site is down. Something like "What to do if the forum is down: Please visit www.unycgp.com".
I setup www.unycgp.com as a club information gateway with a pointer to the forum. If we lose the site for more than a few days, I can direct people to another means of communication such as the Yahoo mailing list or another address setup by Larmo. We have a lot of new people that are not on the Yahoo mailing list so they would not get emails. My web host is fast and in the last three years, I don't think it's had a major outage.

Fellas...
The membership is growing rapidly. I am getting "New User Notifications" daily, and more and more members are coming to this forum and participating. That is wonderful for the club and for this website, but with the increased usage we have an increase need for bandwidth. Quite honestly, at times the amount of people on the website at once just slows things down tremendously, even to the point where it is not accessible. We can do a couple things to rectify this... first, we can restrict access to our forum to registered and logged-in users. On the activity report I am constantly seeing "GUEST" as a visitor to our site. These "guests" are using the same bandwidth as everyone else, and might be bogging things down. At the very least, we need to make these forums accessible to our REGISTERED, REGULAR members. (you all). So, restricting access to the forums only for registered and logged in users might help this. The other remedy that will definitely work is to upgrade our servers, but that will simply cost money and I'm not certain that is something that the club is willing to invest in.
I'd love to hear from you. Please feel open to offer your thoughts but please keep the Larmo.com bashing to a minimum. Let's remember I have volunteered my servers, my labor, domain registration, and hosting expenses, and above all hours and hours of my time to this club and to offer negative comments towards myself and my business will not be tolerated. I know this site is usually running pretty slick and I do realize it has been running fairly slow as of late, but be assured that I am working on remedy and will give it my best effort to keep it business as usual at UNYCGPFORUMS.com.

Dan...We honestly do APPRECIATE all that you have done, and are continuing to do. Let us know what you need to keep the site up and runnning smooth. I am sure that everyone would be willing to pony up a little, and get things back to normal.
Sorry for getting soooooooooo many Regals in the club...It is all our fault! _________________ Sgt at Arms - Council of Elders
