Registration security

We've had a few bots pop up recently which spam the forums.
I think some changes to the registration process would be good.

A couple suggestions:

Email validation:

Use Captcha (those distorted text images where you have to type what it says) during registration - included in phpbb 2.0.11+....but crackable (http://sam.zoy.org/pwntcha/)
or Better Captcha:

just pick 1 they all seem to have come across major money recently.I sold my car to 1 and he gave me extra all I had to do is cash a check and he still hasnt come pick the car up yet.I'm kidding for anyone that doesnt know that
