how many quarts of oil does a 2005 gtp take... i put in 5 cause that what i assumed... should it be more?

Read the dipstick, that will tell you when its full.

The manual just says to not go past the hashes on the dipstick. However, when I've gotten my oil changed in the past, I'm 98% sure it's always been 4.5 quarts.

Put in 4 quarts then read dipstick, add as needed. The dipstick has marks on it for a reason.

Ok on a typical 3800 with a napa 21040 (gm short filter) you will need 4.5qts oil with a napa 21036 filter (longer) you will need 5qts. Joe could back this up as he worked for an oilchange shop for a while...
