carl you get your wish.
vac leak under the snout. i rtv'd some more (thanks brian) and will let it set up. brian, the goop we put in there helped, it was quieter. but that's without a SC belt on. I'm sure it will whistle like an SOB when I get a belt on. |

went for a ride, seems like the leak is there but manageable. IACs are about 80. but, how the f*** do I get a stock SC belt to fit onto my 3.4 pulley? or do I need to get a 670 (stock is 665)? |

Pretty sure stock size is what you need. It should be a pretty tight fit.
Did you upgrade to a larger idler pulley? If so you will need a belt a little bigger. |

update 9/8/2007:
I pulled the blower off this evening. Scraped and cleaned all the surfaces, laid down a bead of RTV on the SSIC and put the gasket down. Let it sit for 20 minutes, then ran a light bead of RTV on the sealing surfaces of the blower near the snout. I also ran a light bead of RTV on the gasket on the outside of the red gasket maker on the gasket itself. Set the blower down and buttoned it all up.
30 minutes later, I still have a vac leak. IACs are 43-45. With a little whistle under the snout. I ran my stethoscope around all the seals and its definitely under the snout. I'm going to recheck all the vac lines, but looks like I'll have to pull it again...next saturday.
So how do you guys get this thing to seal? |

Aren't you supposed to let RTV sit for longer, like 12-24 hours? |

Wait a day, at least. I've read posts from lots of people who seal it all up with RTV and then go out for a run only to find that they have a vacuum leak. The ones that let it sit for a day tend to be fine.
From what I've read, the biggest problems are in sealing around the snout end. I'm planning on putting a bead of RTV between them after the lower plate has been placed on the manifold but before I've installed the IC core. After replacing the S/C and torquing it down I will place another bead of RTV on the outside. |

In my 14yrs. I've always used gaskets. When I read that Ron Vogul (which I have respect for, and know he has worked on ALOT of cars) doesn't use gaskets for things like TB's and IC's, I was surprised.
Working on motorcycles and machines as a technician for a job, there are some flat mating surfaces that I have sealed with a RTV type sealant, and have not had a problem. BUT, these items didn't have a negative or a positive pressure inside that could blow out or draw in the sealant.
I had the opportunity to put my supercharger on without using a gasket and.....I folded..I ended up using a gasket. I've had enough problems with my engine to chance it.
IF I ~was~ to put the IC and SC using just RTV this is how I'd go about it;
I'd clean all the mating surfaces with "Gasket Remover", Brake Clean, Acetone, ect. Then (using permatex "Gasket MAKER") I'd put a bead on the supercharger, then a bead around the intercooler, then so on. I'd let them dr for at ~least~ 2hrs maybe even do it while doing other things so its totally dry. Then Tq. I'd add 2ft.lbs. to the usual amount. But, thats a discretion as well.
Good luck and hoped that was helpful. _________________ ZZP stuff...

The SS IC is supposed to be installed with a gaskett between it and the sc and it and the intake manifold but people that use the gasketts still run into sealing issues. I'm going to use them and add some RTV for good measure. I have an extra sc gaskett so I might use that one between the plates in the core. I haven't checked to see if that will be a problem though. |
