Cooling fan problem

I know it has been very hot lately, but I seem to be having cooling fan problems making it worse on my 98 GTP. I have the standard DHP fan settings in my PCM, but they are not coming on like they used to. I have seen 210 degrees and only low speed fan on. Is there an easy way to check fans for operation, as in jumping to the motors themselves. My 98 does not have a over ride switch set upfor racing like my 01.
Any ideas?

C'mon man, you dont know how to Ign. hot wire your fans?? Razz Just fuckin with ya. I'm guessing, the blue wires are the 12V+. Run a wire from a red 18ga. or so wire (probe for 12V) to the fan wire.

Also, you could just run a wire from your batt. into the car, to a switch, then to fan. Yeah, you'll get a code, but atlest you'll be looking at a SES light instead off 220 temps Wink

OK, there's a blue and a grey....Im thinkin those are yor 12V+ to the fan. Hook the batt. wire to those to see if they turn on. Cool

there is whats known as the 5 dollar fan mod. we did on a lot of the older club cars. it allowed you to manually run the fans on high or low. the only down fall was it had the chance of setting off an ses if the fans were on, and the car was not up to operating temp...

i think it did it to like 6 cars in the club back in the day.
i have to find the directions, but i think all you needed was wire, a double pole, double pole switch, and a diode... it was dirt cheap...

I got gas on the way home today, car hot and the cars fans were not on after shut down like the DHP used to run them for a minute or so after shut down, hmm.

I think you fan motors are dying or they connectiuon is getting bad.

I used to have the ZZP fan mod on this car, but removed it to install it in my 01 GTP, darn. Today I checked all wiring I spliced when installing ZZPs kit, they looked good. I checked the relays and fuses, all good. The driver side fan is working, but not the passenger side one. And it will not run the fans at all at key off as the DHP PCM has in the past. Anybody got a GP fan set up for sale?

lets see, your way: running a hot switched wire that is a high current line...

versus a low current setup that is a ground wire to trigger the fans relays into a high or low mode...


yeah, my way is exactly the same way as you said...

I got a set of fans from a 98 GT off Ebay for less then $30 bucks shipped, so I will replace both and go from there, thanks for all the help!

But it reset itself pretty quickly. No biggie. The light was kinda a reminder to turn the switch off.

1 of the things I completely forgot to rip off my car before trading it. Did wonders for my car at the track. Made the car far more consistent instead of just slowing from one pass to the next.
