My duaghters 99 Grand Prix has lost its AC charge. When I recharged it I could hear it leaking from near the intake air box. Under that is a canister, so either that canister or the hoses going to it are leaking. Any one know what that canister is and have any experience with changing it and /or hoses? Sealer had no effect on this leak, as in if I can hear it leaking its no small leak Sad

once a system has been exposed to outside air, moisture will get into it, and comtaminate the ac drier. and recharging it once you replace that isnt just putting a can of 29.99 DIY kit into the car, to do it correctly you need to evac all the pressure and then refill.

its a lkusterfuck, i just put in a new condenser and I have to go thru all this crap too

I had JC put in a new condenser in my 98 GTP this winter. It ment the system was open and down to zero charge. I spoofed the compressor into turning on buy jumping the conections in the fuse box under hood. It took the charge, about 2 cans of R-134 and it was good. It still has a slow leak and needs a can about every 2.5 - 3 weeks. But I am happy with that for now.
What is that canister under the air box?

if it's what I think you are referring to, it's the receiver/drier/accumulator.

don't forget to replace the orifice tube while ur in there, it's cheap and worth while to replace. and when u recharge the system, have it professionally done, evac, vacuum, and recharge w/ 2.2lbs of r134a w/ dye for future diagnostics.
