Sometime in January I would like to finally do what we have been talking about doing for the last six months. That is, redevelop this website and start with a fresh new look and php engine. As we discussed, this will require some minor downtown, but will result in a fresh new website that will undoubtedly be much much quicker to navigate, and will allow us to get rid of some of these bugs in our system. Don't worry, we will be able to retain all registration information and post archives.
Also, I am working on a new Flash navigation for this site that I'd also like to add to the site. Part of this Flash animation includes an image of a GP, so I want to turn to you guys (and gals) to see if you had any really nice, quality shots of your GP's. I'll leave it up to the moderators to decide who's shot to use, but maybe we can start posting some nice GP pictures in the photo album that we can all choose from. The kind of GP picture I am looking for is a three-quarter front angled view, much like the ones below:
I could just go ahead and use one of these cars, but I think it would have a bit better personal club touch if we used one of our own, don't you agree? I'd also like to stay away from using a 2004 model since most of us have 1997-2003 body styles. I'm sure one of you has some nice shots similar to the above. Again, really up to you guys but I think you'll like what I have in mind.
Moderators, let me know your thoughts and direction. _________________ Shelby GT500 Convertible

Aww....come on. Where's the love?
Ok, but Dermody and I need some representation someplace, please.
Could the picture be something of an overlay in the flash menu? Maybe we could get (nearly) identical shots from the founding (or fastest?) members and rotate them?

A "fresh new look," that's "quicker to navigate," and will "get rid of some of these bugs?" I don't know what it is, but I definitely like what you have in mind! If you need any help with the PHP side of things I might be able to help out. _________________ 2018 Acadia

He's too busy test driving Porsches. |

How will the flash navigation be integrated into the site? Will everyone be forced to use it? Don't we just want the forum topics listed like we do now? As it is, it takes longer to navigate and read new messages than it does with the mailing list.
I would be concerned that the flash just gets in the way. |

Valid Q....Larmo, please define "this site."
Do you mean www.unycgpforms.com, www.unycgp.com, or both?
Or do you have something in mind like taking unycgp.com with flash navigation, merging the boards to be part of it?
Such as..
____________________
[Flash navigation header]
[------------------------------]
[.............content.............]
[________area_______]
where the header never changes, and the content area is the forums, or current unycgp.com content, based on your navigation selection? Or, like I think what Larry is getting at, are you just replacing the forums menu with Flash?
While I like the idea of a Flash menu for overall site navigation, I think text based navigation should still be available--maybe a list in similar fashion to what's currently at the top of the forums? |

Wow you guys are getting WAY ahead of me!!!
My original intentions and motivation for this thread was to simply replace the phpbb engine with a fresh new install and to import our existing database so we can keep all threads, posts, avatars, pictures, etc. I think it is no secret that this site has some major bugs and bandwidth drags that need attention. Then i got to thinking how we could possibly improve on the site a bit, and make it a bit different for the new year, aid in navigation, etc... .That got me playing around with a cool new Flash navigation for the very top of this page and all pages on UNYCGPFORUMS.com. That is, replacing the simply menu options for these forums with a sleek new Flash animation. (NOT the actual forum content at all) And to cover your thought redross, any good developer will ALWAYS present text link options when using Flash animation.
I think we should start simple here, fellas. If you want this Flash navigation to ultimately replace the main website, we can do that... but one step at a time here please. Let's work on THIS site first and if you guys ever want to transition the clubs entire content into one main site (which is probably a good idea) then we can cross that bridge when we get there.
In the meantime, how about some nice UNYCGP car shots!!!! |

What's wrong with the color of my car? It's unique....like me! Also, real easy to keep clean. Never shows dirt unlike others. |

hahaha..... just playin old man!! I've owned a metallic green '97 GTP, a black '00 GTP, and now a Navy Metallic '02 GTP... so you can see I'm just a bit partial to the darker colors. Maybe it's because I've always wanted to be Michael Knight! |

hey, would you pass up the chance to do your wax and polishing up on a lift at chest height? that's the only reason I was there that day, made it allot easier.
LOL, thanks for the re-touches, nice. Man, I really need to go get photoshop software and learn how to use it. |
