|
|
Ok so I didn't know where else to put this. I am a mechanical engineer looking for a job in the rochester area. Things fell through on some local companies and I need something quick. I have a 13 week old son to care for now and my wife's paycheck is not covering it all.
For alittle background, I grew up on a 2500 acre cash crop farm in Seneca County where I learned basic welding and pretty much how to construct anything necessary to complete a task. My BS is in Mech. Eng. from Clarkson University with concentrations in CAD and FEA. I attended RIT for my MS and am writing my thesis to complete the degree. My MS work concentrated on FEA and physical destructive testing.
Anyone that can help, please PM me and I will send you my resume without delay!
Thanks! _________________ Kyle-

EE = teh gayness
Check the local papers for places that are hiring.
Thats how I got my job. Started in early June.
There are usually a lot of opportunities. It just takes a lot of effort and time to find them.
Keep an eye on
www.wnyjobs.com
www.davincijobs.com
even www.monster.com
and if you were a student at RIT you should have access to their jobzone website which is a great resource as well. Although it can be a tricky system to operate well.
http://www.rit.edu/~964www/student/FindingJobOpenings/StudentRITJobZone.htm
If you have any questions on that one feel free to email me or PM me. Also check into any local engineering placement agencies or contract agencies.
www.aerotek.com comes to mind since technically i work for them at the present moment.
Another thing: CALL AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN. Youll have way more luck actually talking to people than just throwing out resumes and expecting responses. Then again, sometimes you get lucky. _________________

You're in Western NY. Thats your first mistake. Good luck finding a job and if you do find one, one that pays well. Hit up Monster.com or some such job place and leave NY you'll thank me if you do. |

U used to be one.
I second Jobzone. The system is fukt up but once you figure out how to operate it, there's tons of jobs on there....at least tons of coops.
good luck

I suggest you look into haliburton. They pay great but you would have to move. The nice part is you have a huge selection of where you want to go in the world, and they have just started working in Australia. http://www.halliburton.com/about/index.jsp |

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions! Moving is not an option. My wife has a great job with great benefits and it just barely isn't covering the costs of having a kid. Plus I am in the local fire department and really like the community that we are in.
I'm going to apply for some part-time stuff locally to fill the time and the monetary gap for the time being while I still look/wait for something to open up permanently that allows us to stay where we are. |

There's a contract firm in Rochester that uses EE's, ME's, Draftsman, etc. I can't remember the name for ht elife of me. I worked with a few people from there while I was pretending to be an engineer at Delphi for a few months. Oh it was Clark Patterson Associates (CPA). You could try them. I know the guys we got from them were hit or miss. We had two really sharp hard working guys and two lazy, braindead slugs. |

Well, to those of you that had constructive replies, I thank you.
I have accepted a Process Engineering position with Goulds Pumps in Auburn, NY. I will most likely be starting this Monday (9/26/05). It does require we move, but it is much easier to move when you are returning to your home town! We will be moving back to within 10 minutes drive to both my parents and my wife's parents, as well as 3 out of 4 grandparents and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
My wife's company has already said that she will have a job anywhere so long as they have a local branch. And they have a local branch just 20 miles away from my new job! It couldn't have turned out any better really!
Again, thanks to all of you that helped out! |
