I just got another flat tonight. I got 4 new rubbers last august after an accident and one of them blew tonight on a highway. I'm not happy. I haven't been happy ever since I got them. The dealer wanted to make my $5000 accident as cheap as possible so I would not have to report the accident. Thus he slapped on 4 coopers that had been laying around the shop collecting dust, brand new, stickers still on 'em. I have no idea what I had put on tonight, it cost me $60 and it got me home, and as long as it gets me to work tomorrow, I'll be content with it.

Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade to 18's and get something that I'm happy with. I was thinking maybe someone has something lying around, or maybe some plans of upgrading are in the near future, with track season coming soon and all...

I don't really know any places to get tires other than my local shop, which I'm not happy with right now, and tirerack. I also don't know a lot when it comes to tires and I don't want to end up with another flat within 7,000 miles.

All I can say is I'm finding a new shop so I can bitch when my tire goes after 7 months.

as a consideration for racing at the track, 18s will probably make you slower than using a stock size wheel/tire combo, due to increase rotational inertia. You will put more stress on your engine and trans if you plan on routinely drag race with a larger wheel/tire combo.

An 18 will have a lower sidewall profile to maintain the correct overall tire height and speedo calibration. you will have a harsher ride and may be more prone to a flat because of the lower sidewall.

just my $.02

even going from a 17 to a 16 (car has 17s stock) I felt a cushier ride. Going from 16 to 18 will be like night and day (or day and night).

Your car can look fine and handle very well with 17s. but then again I don't condone using an 18" rim for anything smaller than 35ssssss Idea
