Ya, my Malibu is on its way out the door, and I want to find a 97-03 2 door GTP, preferably black or red for under 10 grand. I know its gonna be a hard find but if anyone knows of one or is lookin to sell let me know plz, it would be a great addition to my 90 TGP Smile

If you have a choice, try to avoid 97 and look for 98-02.

Honestly I am not very knowledgable on the 97 and up GPs, I know the 88-96s a lot better. Why would I want to stay away from the 97s?

I'm not an expert on the 97, but there were a lot of things improved for 98 and up. For starters, the transmission was the 4T60 in 97. Later GPs have the 4T65E-HD. The PCM in 97 is also unique.

98-02 had minor differences. Some have the digital/auto climate control and some are manual.

correct me if im wrong....but isnt it only the 97 GP GT's that have the 4T60E's in them and the 97 GTP has a 4T65E-HD..... I would think an L-67 motor hooked up to a 4T60E would destroy that tranny.

1997 GP GT had the 4T60 1/2 vaccum 1/2 electronic POS trans!!

1997 GP GTP had a 4T65-e (same as 1998+ GP GT) no HD version.

Also 1997 is the only year GTPs without true traction control, IIRC GM did something with the trans to reduce wheel spin, but I can't remember what exactley.

1997 GP PCMs had a removable chip, instead of the flashable PCMs used in 1998+...again can't think of the exact names of the diffrences.
