Anyone who needs a CASE learn, PM me and we will meet up and get it done for you. I am at the track most Fridays, and some Wednesdays. The whole process takes roughly 30 seconds to complete. _________________ Sgt at Arms - Council of Elders

Thanks for the offer Gary, I'm glad someone in the club can do them. I might need one in a few weeks and it's a huge pain in the ass trying to get one done.

Hmm I might take you up on that sometime. My car just turned 114k, would it be a good idea to do it? Or is it something thats not needed unless youve done certain things? |

The crankshaft position system variation values are stored in the PCM non-volatile memory after the crankshaft position system variationlearn procedure has been performed. DTC 1336 set indicates that the crankshaft position system variation values have not been stored in the PCM and the crankshaft position system variationlearn procedure must be performed. The learn procedure is required after the following service procedures have been performed, regardless of whether or not DTC P1336 is set:
PCM replacement
Engine replacement
Crankshaft replacement
Crankshaft balancer replacement
Crankshaft position sensor replacement
Any engine repair(s) which disturbs the crankshaft/harmonic balancer to crankshaft position sensor relationship.

Wow, props for this. I definitely need one already, and after I freshen up my tattered bottom end, it'll be a big necessity.
I should've seen this before my trip home for the Summer Picnic. Hopefully I get to meet up with you folks soon, and see you at the track before years end.

Update - 10/29/2005
Well, it seems that DHP has yet again thrown a kink into things. The HP Tuners software can do a case lean on all standard bins, Intense bins, and a selected number of DHP bins.
It seems that hey finally figured out how to block HP Tuners from dong a CASE learn on their PCM's by encoding and setting the OS ID to "0". The software has to be able to get an OS id in order to do the case learn, for obvious reasons.
These guys for whatever reason do not even want HP Tuners to be able to HELP people by saving them a $90 dealer charge for a simple CASE learn. Bad enough the lock all of their files, lock down their forums to only purchasers, and then now they disable CASE learns for everyone.
Think twice before getting anything DHP....they seem to be ALL about getting your cash, and screwing HP Tuners.
The offer still stands for free CASE learns, but just be warned that if you have a DHP PCM, I may not be able to help you out... |

I thought I read that it's a long abandoned practice. DHP very heavily relies on the OS IDs now. That's in part what helps the Powrtuner load scan options so quickly. Clearly those PCMs are still around though...
--edit--
DHP 1.0 PCMs based on 98GTP code had the OS ID set to 0, which isn't (obviously) a valid ID.
--Paraphrasing a post by Charles Beyer on DHP's forums.

Naw....Encryption is done by key to key. It is all done in ms. This is nothing more than "protecting" their code and screwing other companies. HP Tuners has had the case learn feature for a long time, and DHP hasn't. They hate to lose a sale because of it, and locked it out to screw them. Business 101....Has nothing to do with fast loading times. |

Ironic that HPTuners moved to a proprietary format for saving their PCM files in v2, eh?
Let's see if you can do a CASE Learn on my DHP-based PCM tomorrow.
I think the problem HPT and others have reading DHP 1.0 PCMs is that the OS ID is set to 0, AND there is some encrypted data. Even the Powrtuner had a bug reading those PCMs at one point. If it was the OS ID alone, I'd think people could get around it. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the semantics of your post though...it's way past time to get to sleep.
..And actually, the OS ID has everything to do with fast PID load times for the Powrtuner scanner.
See you at the track! |
